Ian understands the importance of timing. He views his career in biotechnology drug development and commercialisation as wonderful timing. He has participated in, and contributed to, an amazing time in the history of drug discovery and development – monoclonal antibodies, recombinant DNA technology, targeted drugs and cell therapies. He has worked with large, established companies as well as small start-ups, both in Australia and the US. He has led drug development teams, including the teams that developed two FDA-approved drugs. He has led multiple licensing and M&A transactions. He has held executive and board level positions, including CEO and Chairman, and led, managed and mentored a range of scientific and business colleagues.
Ian holds a BSc in biochemistry and microbiology at The University of Melbourne and a PhD in biochemistry from Monash University. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Melbourne Business School, as well as short business and finance courses at Harvard School of Public Health and the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
Outside his professional career Ian collects art, plays an occasional round of golf, and undertakes DIY projects around his home, his beach house and his wife’s café. He also enjoys a broad range of music – mostly listening to CDs (from a vast collection) and attending live concerts, but sometimes playing guitar himself (pretty badly).
